How To Get The Best Grand Exit Shots From Your Wedding
/We LOVE a grand exit! Whether it's sparklers, confetti, or simply cheering guests, it's the perfect way to end your night of celebration. Grand exits can be SO fun, or kind of disappointing depending on how you set up the moment. Here are a few tips to help make sure your exit is everything you want it to be.
1. Think of the video & photo you want - Chances are, you are doing a grand exit for the sake of photo and video content. With that in mind, think about the images you have in your head when you imagine your exit, and then create the time, items, and space needed to create those images.
2 Plan for the time of day - If your wedding day is wrapping up at 5 pm, it might be too light out for a sparkler exit. Similarly, if you're reception ends at 11 pm, confetti might be hard to see. Think about when your exit is happening and make sure your exit plan makes sense for that time of day.
3. Consider your guests - You know your friends and family best! If by 11 pm exit all the guests will be a few too many drinks in, don't give them anything with fire. Trust us... it doesn't end well. If you have a lot of small children, be careful giving them things to throw. No one likes a handful of birdseed to the face!
4. Ask your venue - Some venues have restrictions about what you can toss on their grounds. This can mean items like sparklers, rice, or streams aren't allowed. Ask your venue what they permit and ask qualifying questions to see if there's a similar but different product you could get away with. I.e. maybe sparklers aren't allowed, but glow sticks are! Maybe rice isn't permitted, but birdseed is. If regular confetti isn't ok, maybe confetti made from biodegradable seed paper is ok! Venues have restrictions for a reason, and often there's a similar option that fits within the rules.
5. - Think outside the box - An exit can be made special by anything, or nothing! You can run through a line of your friends cheering and still feel like a million dollars. Or, the guests can be holding streamers, ribbons, sparklers, bubbles, bird seed, flower petals, confetti, or even paper airplanes and you'll still feel like a movie star. Props aren't what make an exit special, it's the people there cheering you on.
PRO TIP: If your day is ending later than your video and photo team are staying on-site, consider doing a faux exit with your wedding party. Stage the exit you want while your videographer and photographer are still around and you'll never know the difference in the final video or photo!
